Discovering Acting
Reeves’ interest in acting began during his school years. At one point, he attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts in Toronto, an institution known for its focus on creative disciplines.

While he eventually left formal schooling before graduating, Reeves continued exploring acting opportunities. He began participating in community theater and took acting classes that introduced him to various performance techniques, including elements of the Konstantin Stanislavski acting method.

By the early 1980s, Reeves was appearing in Canadian television productions, commercials, and stage performances. These early roles helped him gain experience and connections within the entertainment industry.

Moving to Los Angeles and Early Film Roles
In his late teens, Reeves relocated to Los Angeles to pursue acting full time. Like many aspiring actors, he initially accepted a variety of smaller roles while working to establish his reputation.

One of his early film appearances came in River’s Edge (1986), a drama that received attention for its serious themes and ensemble cast. The role helped introduce Reeves to a wider audience and demonstrated his ability to handle dramatic material.

However, his first major breakthrough in mainstream entertainment arrived with a very different type of film.

Breakthrough with Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure
In 1989, Reeves starred alongside Alex Winter in the comedy Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. The film followed two high-school students who travel through time as part of a history project.

The movie became a commercial success and quickly gained a dedicated fan base. Reeves’ portrayal of the easygoing character Ted “Theodore” Logan made him widely recognizable to younger audiences.

Although the role brought him popularity, Reeves continued seeking opportunities in more diverse genres to expand his acting range.

Expanding into Drama and Action Films
During the early 1990s, Reeves appeared in several films that helped establish him as a versatile performer.

In the drama My Own Private Idaho (1991), directed by Gus Van Sant, he worked alongside River Phoenix. The film received critical attention and remains an important work in independent cinema.

Reeves later starred with Patrick Swayze in the action film Point Break (1991), which combined crime drama with extreme sports themes.

Another major milestone arrived with the 1994 action thriller Speed, where Reeves co-starred with Sandra Bullock. The film was a major box-office success and helped solidify Reeves’ status as a leading action star.

In 1997, he appeared alongside Al Pacino and Charlize Theron in the supernatural drama The Devil’s Advocate.
