While Cherry admitted that the financial trajectory of Cassie’s OnlyFans storyline wasn’t entirely realistic for a beginner, she firmly argued that the explicit scenes written by showrunner Sam Levinson serve a deeper cultural purpose rather than being pure shock value.

Speaking to Glamour, Cherry explained that the show uses these extreme situations to hold a mirror up to contemporary culture:

“I think Sam is using these young women as a vessel to show how society currently sees young women. I don’t believe that he’s trying to say that it’s these young women’s fault that all the world wants from them is for them to just be hot and be sexy and be young. I think Sam is trying to say: ‘Look where we have got to in society.‘”

Cherry emphasized that Cassie’s character arc reflects the unfair treatment people inflict on women based purely on genetics. “Cassie didn’t choose to look how she looks, but everybody treats her in such a specific way because of how she looks,” Cherry added, calling out the hypocrisy of reducing a talented performer down to her physical attributes.
