Sarah Palin’s political career began in the 1990s. She served on the Wasilla City Council before being elected mayor. In 2006, she made history as Alaska’s first female governor and its youngest governor ever. Her leadership style and public persona resonated with many voters, earning her national recognition.
While their marriage was long seen as stable, the Palins experienced challenges over the years. In 2019, shortly after their 31st wedding anniversary, Palin received legal notification that Todd had filed for divorce, citing “incompatibility of temperament.” According to court documents, this meant the couple found it difficult to live together as husband and wife. Their divorce was finalized in March 2020.
Palin has spoken publicly about the emotional impact of the divorce. She shared in interviews that the news came as a shock and that it was a painful transition for the entire family. Despite the separation, both parents have remained involved in the lives of their children, especially their youngest son, Trig, with whom they share custody.
Palin also revealed that she had begun a new relationship with former New York Rangers hockey player Ron Duguay. The two had been friends for years, and their relationship evolved when Duguay offered to show Palin around New York City. She described the relationship as supportive and grounded, highlighting how meaningful it was to have someone to confide in outside of politics.
