The Navy said the search involved a large, coordinated effort by U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force assets operating in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility.
According to the Navy, the operation included:
- Aircraft from the USS George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group.
- Aircraft and helicopters from USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72).
- Multiple Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers.
- P-8 Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft.
- U.S. Air Force search aircraft.
Together, these forces searched more than 14,000 square miles over a period exceeding 102 hours before the active search was suspended.
Missing Sailor Identified
Rear Adm. Todd Cimicata, commander of Carrier Strike Group 10, praised Edwards’ leadership and service, saying his legacy as a husband, father, friend, and naval officer would not be forgotten.
Investigation Continues
Officials have not released a final determination regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident but have reiterated that there is currently no evidence of enemy or hostile involvement.
