Florida Congressman Quits Spain Caucus Over b Government’s Israel Policies

In a letter addressed to Sánchez, Giménez said he could no longer serve in a leadership role within an organization intended to strengthen U.S.-Spain relations while, in his view, Spain’s government was taking actions that undermined one of America’s closest allies.

He wrote that Spain had “chosen political grandstanding over moral clarity” during a period in which Israel continues to face security threats from Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran, and other armed groups. He also expressed hope that Spain would eventually return to what he described as a foreign policy rooted in support for democratic allies.

Spain’s Position on Israel

The resignation comes amid continuing disagreements between Spain and Israel over the war in Gaza and broader Middle East policy.

Spain has been among the European countries most critical of Israel’s military campaign, with the Sánchez government arguing that its positions are intended to uphold international law and address humanitarian concerns. Spain has also supported measures that have drawn criticism from Israeli officials and some U.S. lawmakers.

Supporters of Spain’s approach contend that its government is advocating for civilian protection and diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict, while critics argue that its policies unfairly single out Israel.
