Tom Cruise’s Aerial Stunt for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning Pushed Him to His Limit, Crew Says
After nearly 30 years leading one of Hollywood’s most ambitious action franchises, Tom Cruise has become synonymous with physically demanding stunts. From scaling skyscrapers to performing high-altitude jumps, he has long embraced a hands-on approach to action filmmaking. But according to the team behind Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, one of his latest aerial sequences proved to be among the most strenuous shoots of his career.

Stunt coordinator and second-unit director Wade Eastwood, who has worked closely with Cruise on multiple films, recently spoke with The Times about the intense preparation and endurance required for the film’s aerial action set pieces.

Eastwood explained that the production’s aerial sequence involved Cruise performing extended takes on the wing of a biplane during flight — an environment that challenged even the actor’s exceptional fitness and discipline.

According to Eastwood, Cruise faced strong wind resistance, the force of the propeller wash, and continuous exposure to airborne particles. These conditions made the stunt not only physically demanding but also exhausting across long shooting days.
