The wording of the viral post uses a common technique known as the “curiosity gap.”
- “We’ve Just Been Informed…”
- “Breaking News”
- “Huge Announcement”
- “Moments Ago”
are designed to encourage readers to click or share before learning the underlying facts.
While these headlines often create a sense of urgency, they frequently provide little or no context about what actually happened.
Do Television Networks Interrupt Programming?
Yes. Major news organizations, including ABC News, sometimes interrupt scheduled programming for events such as:
- Presidential addresses.
- Major Supreme Court rulings.
- Election results.
- Natural disasters.
- National security developments.
- Significant international events.
An interruption by itself, however, does not necessarily indicate a national emergency or an extraordinary development.
