Subsequent media reports, citing emergency-dispatch audio, indicated first responders were called to McConnellâs residence for an unconscious person, although his office has not confirmed those reports or disclosed a diagnosis.
In a July 8 letter to McConnellâs Washington office, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said Kentuckians had âgrown increasingly concernedâ about the senatorâs well-being and ability to continue serving.
âAllowing speculation to continue in the media is not fair to the Senator or to Kentuckians,â Beshear said, urging McConnell to provide information directly to the public.
âI have not heard from him, and I think itâs a question that Republicans should be asking because he does represent the state of Kentucky,â Stutzman said.
He added that McConnellâs constituents deserve additional information about the senatorâs condition, Newsweek reported.
